Summer Writing Boost for Rising 2nd/3rd Graders
Compressed air paper rockets launched hundreds of feet up. Homemade ice cream churned by hand. Water balloon fights that soak on a hot day.
These engaging and child centered activities provide rich inspiration for evidence based writing projects. Through inquiry and play, your children will develop needed academic language that increases their writing confidence.
Located firmly in fun, my specialized camp will elevate your children’s interest and skills so they start the year excited to pick up their pencils and write!
To ensure children receive the best possible instruction, each week is limited to a small group of four or five students.
The camp will be held in my home and will follow an early elementary schedule familiar to kids. All materials will be provided including healthy snacks.
I hope to serve Del Rey families before reaching out to other local parents. Please contact me for more information.
Schedule: Monday-Friday. 8:30am-12:00pm. Snack provided.

Why did I design this camp?
As a parent I know how challenging writing can be for young children. As a language and literacy specialist, I know engaging, targeted interventions work. I’d like to use my knowledge and skills to help your children, most especially those who need a boost.
Relationships matter
I’m Maggie Terry, an award winning public school teacher and adjunct professor of teacher education and school leadership. I’m also a Del Rey parent to Declan and Brody Palacios. Since we moved here in 2019, I’ve consistently coached youth sports and led Declan’s cub scout den. I’ve also subbed extensively at Del Rey for our wonderful teachers. It’s a joy to coach and teach the children in our community.
