About
I’m Maggie Terry, an award-winning public school teacher and adjunct professor of teacher education and school leadership. I’m also a Del Rey parent to Declan and Brody.
Much of my approach to writing instruction is based on the Understanding Language initiative at Stanford University. The rest stems from my work with UC Berkeley’s Bay Area Writing Project, the research and practice experts at WestEd, and nearly fifteen years designing project-based learning that centers students’ language and literacy development.
In Watts, Harlem, the South Bronx and San Francisco, my students consistently outperformed their peers both across their district and statewide. As a teacher I emphasize authentic, positive relationships with my students. It’s important to me to know children’s needs and meet them where they’re at.
I’m lucky to have studied at both Stanford and UC Berkeley.
I obtained a BA in English and minored in Latin American literature at Stanford, and I obtained my teaching credential and Masters of Education at CAL.
